Car rental or campervan rental is a must in Ireland, I live in the North of Ireland, and I am speaking from first-hand experience. If you are staying a few days in Dublin or Cork you can get by without your own transport, but if you really wish to see all of Ireland you need a car rental. The best thing is that you can actually see most of Ireland on a normal 2-week holiday. Another way of putting it is to say that Ireland is compact, with a lot of attractions squeezed in, and perfect for a car rental road trip.

We are able to offer a wide range of rental vehicles in the people carrier category with free miles.

If you are going to explore Ireland this summer, it is likely you will be flying into Dublin international airport, situated just north of Dublin city. Unless you are just staying in Dublin, you will need a car to get out and about and tour Ireland proper. For many, this is a trip of a lifetime, and we recommend renting a people carrier for extra comfort and space that come sin this vehicle category. Demand for 7 seater car rental Dublin is big and whilst all suppliers offer these on their fleet, numbers are limited so please book weeks or months in advance of your Dublin arrival date.

We can provide 7 seater car hire with automatic or manual shaft from Dublin airport or near Dublin. 9 seater passenger van rental has recently been added to the services provided by MPV Rentals, the response has been good with a high demand for multi-seater cars that will seat 7,9,10,12 or 14 passengers, so please book well in advance. . We also offer a growing range of 8 seater car rental options, in Ireland and at all key inbound arrival airports in Australia.

Automatic Car Hire Ireland

Suppliers at Dublin airport offer a range of Automatic 7 seaters aimed at international travellers from the USA and drivers that are not licenced to drive manual shift cars.  People carriers do sell out during the summer months, so please book in advance

Car Hire with Manual Shift also Available

A wide selection of 7 seaters are available in Ireland from Dublin airport and other key locations, please note the cost of 7 seater car rental in Dublin and other parts of Ireland is based on season, so prices will be more expensive in the summer months and lower in off-peak winter months. Early booking is always advisable. Currently, no 8 seaters are available,   the next size up is the 9 seater passenger van also classes as a people carrier.

I strongly advise booking during summer or early Autumn if you are a fan of Irish music, make sure to visit during one of the major music festivals or fleadhs. Galway holding one of the largest, but they are happened everywhere in Ireland

Popular vehicle categories

Popular seven rental Ireland options

Within the car rental industry few if any supplier will guarantee an actual car model, it will always read for example Volkswagen Toucan or similar. The similar is a get out clause if they dot have that particular model available, but they will still provide an equivalent seven seaters, example a Citroën C4 Grand Picasso.

  • Citroën Grand Picasso – 5+2 Seater
  • Vauxhall Zafira – 5+2 Seater
  • Ford Galaxy – 7 Seater
  • Dacia Jogger ( manual and automatic  7 Seater )
  • VW Touran

Popular 9 seater passenger minivan rental options

Scenic Driving Routes Ireland

Ireland is a green and wonderful island located in northwestern Europe, it has an extensive history while maintaining beautiful and world-renowned nature. Ireland is like nowhere else on earth and is famous for its castles, history, and culture. With Celtic tribes first settling there in 4BC, it is no wonder Ireland is consistently visited by history buffs and nature enthusiasts alike. With places like Dublin and Cork having it’s prominently noticed attractions, there are also small passageways and hidden treasures down little alleys. This makes Ireland such a great place to visit, as you can spend years here and not see all the great country has to offer.

Ring of Kerry:

Ireland is home to many famous short drives that are just loops but give a special backdrop. The Ring of Kerry is a 179 km circuit that is in the South of Galway. Along the Ring of Kerry, one can find beaches, medieval ruins, meadows, and lakes. Down here, one can also see Healy Pas in Cork County. This 11 km drive shows some of the great inland beauty.

The Wild Atlantic Way:

If you want to experience the true beauty of Ireland, travelling The Wild Atlantic Way is how you do it. The longest drive in all of Ireland passes through 5 major sections as well 157 ‘discovery points’ that’ll help guide you along the way. You’ll see places like Cork, the Blarney Castle, the 15th century Ross Castle, and many more. If you’ve got a surfboard, it is also great surfing along the coast! It’s best to beware of big swells, though.

The Giants Causeway:

For years, the Giants Causeway has inspired artists of a broad spectrum. Offering views of the Atlantic Ocean from jaw-dropping cliffs, you can get here by travelling about 5kms northeast of the town of Bushmills. It is a World Heritage Sight and if you come here, you’ll certainly see why it is one of Ireland’s most famous places! Some of the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 meters thick and 12 metres high in places!

Best time to visit Ireland

The weather is so unpredictable it is hard to say, it is really a year round destination and always some activity that can be indulged in the rain, snow or sun.

Driving a rental minivan in Ireland tips and advice

Gas stations are few and far between in some places, so it’s best to keep your eye on the tank! It is also best to have some patience when driving around the countryside, as farm equipment and another big piece of machinery is usually driving pretty slow on the road. The usual speed limit in Ireland is around 120 km/h hour for motorways, 100 km/h for National Routes, and 80 km/h for local and regional roads. However, you generally won’t be able to go this fast as you’re usually too busy admiring the scenery! Petrol colour here is green for regular petrol, opposite to America.
